Throughout human history, various industries have come and gone. All throughout Europe and other regions of the world a few centuries ago, one of the most common and prolific professions was that of a blacksmith. These people were responsible for shaping metal into all sorts of things, from tools to the shoes that went on horses. Today, the vast majority of work like that is done by machines, with only a few people needed to operate them. The point here is simply that as societies evolve and new technological advancements are made, new industries spring up and old ones die off. It’s the way of the world. With this in mind, it’s not hard to imagine a world in which many of the industries that are thriving today simply don’t exist anymore.
One industry that’s doing quite well today that isn’t going to go the way of the Dodo bird is the roofing industry. It’s a great example of one type of industry that no matter what type of technological advancements that are made, there are still going to be roofers. This is true for a few reasons. For starters, as long as people are living in homes or working in offices, they’re going to be under roofs. Roofs are a central component of a home or structure, and as long as people are alive they’re going to be living and working in buildings with roofs. Thus, the industry itself obviously isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Unlike other industries throughout human history that have simply ceased to exist, the roofing industry will exist as long as human beings are around.
Second, the roofing industry isn’t one of those industries that machines can do. It’s simply not possible for a machine to get up on a roof and maneuver around like a person does. Roofers have to get up on the roof and move all around, making repairs, replacing shingles, and filling holes. This is not a task that can be handled by automation. Unlike checking yourself out at the grocery store, which is something that people can do themselves without the aid of a retail clerk, roofing is one of those things that you need a breathing person to be able to do properly.
It’s possible that eventually there will be advancements in the types of materials that people put on their roofs so they’ll no longer need to be maintained, but even then roofers would still be needed to install those materials the first time. Even if roofing companies invented a material that couldn’t be damaged by strong winds or hail, homeowners would still need to hire a roofing company to have their roof installed the first time around.
As you can see, the roofing industry isn’t going to be one of those industries that gets lost to automation or technological advancements. It’s here to stay, and the jobs of roofers are secure. If all of this talk has got you thinking about your roof and how it’s probably time for you to have it checked out, make sure you choose a quality company like J & K Roofing for the job.
