Developing Flexibility and Reliability in Fabrication for Aerospace

The use of aircraft has become quite an innovation in the modern world. Ever since the Wright brothers have made the first advancement to flight we have soared to new heights. Today, commercial flights take people around the world and space aerocraft take our astronauts to new horizons in space. In the area of Aerospace Fabrication, the most commonly used components for securing the fixtures and jigs together are clamping pins. In the construction of aircrafts clamping pins have become the norm. They are a viable option since they allow large parts to be quickly and easily loaded and unloaded. However, clamping pins are not free from flaws and possible improvements.

When it comes to aerospace fabrication, accuracy is something that can never be overlooked. Other than accuracy, proper time management as well as adaptability to new challenges has a critical importance in the aerospace industry which is why the initiative to make new improvements is always a must. With the same idea in mind, aerospace fabrication companies have to be very efficient. This is why jig plates have become quite common in the construction of aircraft. Using jig plates in aircraft construction makes things a lot easier when working the same processes but in different variations of aircraft structures. In addition to that, parts and components loaded onto jig plate beds the positioning and clamping can be done quick and easy.

The clamping pin used in Aerospace Fabrication isn’t new in terms of design. Along with the clamping pin, a small leaf spring is attached which allows the clamping pin to be secured in place. Even when the clamp is removed from the jib bed setup, the clamping pin will still be secured. This allows for the entire spring to become tighter.

However, as mentioned, the design isn’t something that is new in the aerospace industry. Due to that, there are still some improvements that can be made. One of the areas that have seen some problems is the leaf springs tightness particularly when the clamping pin is removed from the jig plate which is the case when the factory is seeing a lot of work. To make matters more difficult, losing a pin can be a challenge due to its size especially when you take into account how big the fabrication factory is.

These days different aerospace fabrication companies have been coming together in order to discuss design improvements to find a solution to the system of fabrication. One of the design developments was focused on the leaf spring and tackles its durability. The improvement allowed the spring to be used more often while reducing the chances of it becoming loose.

Another point focused on in the design improvements is the flexibility of the components. The improved design featured a more mobile pin that is secured to the collar. With this improvement, the workers in the Aerospace Fabrication can change the length of the shaft allowing him to find a better fit based on the jig plate’s depth.
