However, being an electrician means that you should have a lot of mental capabilities in order to be able to solve the electrical problems that your clients are experiencing at home. The road to becoming an electrician is filled with trainings and lectures in order to become learned in the field as well as going through an apprenticeship to get actual on the job experience.

You need to have knowledge in mathematics – Although you don’t need to be as intelligent as Einstein or Hawking, having some knowledge in mathematics or algebra to be more specific is required in order to perform better in electrical work. Although it can be intimidating, you can always do some research on some essential algebra for your electrician career or you can even go to a local college and do some catching up in classes.

2.) You need to be adept in reading and have good reading comprehension – Working as an Electrician involves having to deal with written documents, blueprints, and memos every time you are called to work on different situations or in different worksites. Being an effective electrician means being able to properly document things through written works in order to have proper records and to communicate with your clients.

3.) You need to have skills in composition and writing – As mentioned previously your work as electrician will involve written communication through documents as well as reports and blueprints. If you are not able to write legibly, your clients may become confused as to what you are trying to convey to them. You may want to practice your writing skills from time to time in order to make sure that your handwriting is clear enough. When in doubt, you can always try resorting to using a computer to type out important reports and documents for your clients.

You need to be a critical thinker and have analytical skills – Every time you are called on to work on a specific problem by a client, you will need to gather some data, make some observations, understand the whole problem and be able to make decisions as to how you can fix things. These skills will help you be able to see the goal and make the right calls to solve the issue and prevent any further complications.
